I took the course ‘How to apply for an academic position’ by TRESS ACADEMIC in April 2016. The timing of the course couldn’t have been better, as my first job interview was scheduled for the following week. Among the many valuable insights provided during the course, the exercises on possible questions from hiring committees, as well as the mock interview itself, were particularly helpful. They gave me an excellent guide of what to expect.
Furthermore, I was especially grateful for the opportunity to discuss my personal issues at the course, which included me showing up to the interview visibly pregnant with my fourth baby… I received not only helpful advice, but also true encouragement that my career goals were not completely crazy.
After the baby was born, I made use of TRESS ACADEMIC’s application coaching service for a position in Canada. I received Bärbel’s meticulous feedback on my resume and cover letter, and that helped me improve my application package even further. Bärbel’s support, however, didn’t end there. When I got the invitation from Canada for a preliminary Skype interview, Bärbel offered me invaluable advice on dealing with the challenging setting of this kind of communication, and again I had her support when I prepared for the transatlantic on-campus visit that followed on short notice.
Over the course of the application process, I greatly benefitted from Bärbel’s expertise and truly enjoyed sharing in her passion for what she’s doing. When I get into the position of being able to enter into negotiations on a position, Bärbel would be the first person I’ll turn to for advice!”
