Publishing Strategy
Sprint
Launch a 12-month strategy for boosting your team’s publication output — a one-day strategy lab for academic teams facing new pressure to publish, delivered for your institution.
Why join this workshop?
More academic teams are under pressure to raise their publication output — driven by managerial demands, external accreditation, or institutional evaluations that can feel like a sudden threat.
The reason varies: a strong applied-research focus, high teaching loads, or simply no established publishing tradition or incentives. This workshop is a structured strategy lab, not a writing seminar — it kicks off a 12-month publication initiative, whatever the starting point.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN?
Participants learn how to
- understand how journal publications influence accreditation and institutional positioning
- recognise publishing in peer-reviewed journals as professional leadership
- position themselves clearly within the publication roadmap
- translate their expertise and experience into publishable academic contributions
- develop one concrete, strategically positioned paper idea
WHAT PARTICIPANTS TAKE AWAY
Participants leave the workshop with three concrete outputs:
- A priority paper idea — one concrete, strategically positioned contribution ready to develop
- A 12-month publication roadmap — with a secondary idea, milestones, and accountability
- A positioning diagnosis — clarity on your current stage and the one strategic move that advances it
You don’t need more expertise to publish — you need a strategy for the expertise you already have.
What topics do we cover?
Part 1 – The Publication Positioning Map. Locate your current stage and define the next strategic move.
Part 2 – From Your Work to a Publishable Contribution. Shape a focused, publishable paper concept from your research, applied work, or professional experience.
Part 3 – The Rules of the Game. A concise overview of how peer review and journal publishing shape academic positioning.
Part 4 – Strategic Decisions Before Writing. Paper type, journal positioning, co-authorship, and avoiding preventable rejection.
Part 5 – The 12-Month Publication Sprint. One priority paper, one secondary idea, milestones, and accountability.
How is it taught?
The workshop is highly interactive and practice-oriented, combining short strategic impulse lectures with structured ideation labs, small-group exchange, guided reflection worksheets, and individual roadmap drafting. Around 50–60% of the day is active participant work, with the emphasis on strategic clarity and tangible outcomes.
WHO BENEFITS MOST?
Delivered in-house or live-online for your institution, it works best for a group facing similar pressure to raise publication output:
- Academic teams and departments facing new pressure to publish — from accreditation, evaluation, or managerial demands
- Staff with a strong applied-research or teaching profile wanting to build stronger journal visibility
- Departments without an established publishing tradition or incentive structure, now needing one
- Institutions preparing for evaluation or accreditation and wanting a shared publication framework
